Chancellor’s Welcome

The Dwight School vibrates with adventure, wonder, energy and the mysteries of our world. My task is to orchestrate a mosaic of talented individuals who will ignite the “unique spark of genius” within each student, teachers who can change how a student thinks about himself and the world. Our mantras are to dare to dream, to have the courage to take intellectual risks, and to build leaders through action.

Imagine entering a room to find Mattieu Ricard, a Buddhist monk clad in saffron robes, discussing the “science of mind” and how we can bring peace and compassion to all mankind. Imagine entering the gym as a youthful tennis player practices perfect motions a thousand times while walking back and forth on a balance beam. Imagine Fifth Graders bubbling with excitement as they put the finishing touches on a mystery play they wrote and are about to perform for their parents and friends.

Dr. Julius Sachs, whose family founded the school, the college boards and the banking house of Goldman Sachs, would be smiling at the modern incarnation of his institution, Dwight today has extended its rich tradition by initiating a gap year abroad, by planning to build a state-of-the-art Outdoor Laboratory that focuses on Innovation, and by inaugurating a mobile observatory with three state-of-the-art telescopes to examine our universe.

Our family has further enhanced the Sachs’ legacy through eight decades of Dwight stewardship. Our passion for educating future global leaders is at the center of our mission. We take pride in being a founder of The Guild of IB Schools and being the first school in the world to create an Online Leadership Program. We invite you to explore the Dwight vision that includes a tapestry of International Baccalaureate programs and varied extracurricular offerings that reflects our globalmindedness.
