    Welcome

Arts are integral to a Dwight education. Opportunities for students to express themselves abound in theater, music, dance and visual arts. Individualized learning is at the core of the arts at Dwight; we aim to foster self-confidence, a critical awareness and a deep understanding of the place of the arts in contemporary society.

As part of a global community, students at Dwight learn through direct practical experience of the importance of art as a means of communication across time and culture. Students gain a critical awareness of the world music, international trends in the fine arts, and a broad appreciation for dance and theater from a global perspective.

As an IB school, learning through experience, or simply “learning by doing,” is practiced in the arts throughout the Primary Years, Middle Years and the Diploma programs. Students reflect on their own artistic progress through design journals, papers and presentations designed to place the arts in a wider critical context throughout the program. Students become not only practitioners but also develop a discerning eye, a perceptive ear and an appreciation of the the arts as a cornerstone of human achievement grounded in a thorough and rigorous theoretical knowledge.
