And They're off! Dwight Students Are Enjoying Our Inaugural Exchange Program in China

In a first for Dwight, 12 students and two teachers boarded a plane this week headed for an exchange program at Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School. Dwight — which has a long-standing exchange program for fifth graders with our campus in London that dates back 18 years — is proud to extend this tradition for older students through this inaugural program in China.

Our school in Shanghai is another first for Dwight and for China: In 2014, Dwight and Shanghai Qibao High School launched the first independent Chinese-foreign collaborative high school approved by the Ministry of Education in China. The school that emerged from this innovative partnership combines the best of the International Baccalaureate and Chinese curricula ... it blends Eastern and Western educational traditions into one unique school.

Following the long flight, the group from home received a warm, gracious welcome from all — and some hugs from students who had already connected with them last month in New York City, when they performed together in Dwight's annual global concert at Carnegie Hall.

With an itinerary chock full of activities, ranging from attending classes to visiting Old Water Town, Ling Yin Temple and Green Tree Plantation, the Shanghai Museum and Urban Planning Exhibition, and so much more, our students are on the go from morning 'til night. They are staying in dorms on the new campus of the boarding school and stepping into the shoes of their peers in China.

We know that they will be seeing the beautiful and historic city, tasting the local cuisine, and learning about the rich cultural traditions of Shanghai. We also know that they will expand their world views, forge new friendships, and return to New York forever enriched by the experience.

Follow our students' adventures on Facebook and stay tuned for all the news about this exchange program in the coming weeks. We can't wait to share all the wonderful details and personal impressions from our students!
