This year marked the third annual round of grade 6 Leadership Program dinners!
This year marked the third annual round of grade 6 Leadership Program dinners! Students prepared and served three meals to their parents as the culmination of their learning over the last several months.
As in previous years, students worked with Ron Posner, Head of Middle School, and a team of experts in the food industry, who guided them through the process of creating a pop-up restaurant in the Quad. The team is spearheaded by alum Jacob Hadjigeorgis '02, owner of Jacob's Pickles and Maison Pickle restaurants, and founder of Jacob's Pickles Digs NY, a non-profit organization supporting urban farming in New York City. Harold Villarosa, Chef de Cuisine at Maison Pickle and founder of The Insurgo Project, which nurtures farm-to-table and sustainability practices, steers students through process.
Students were once again charged with planning, marketing, and cooking a three-course meal together, which required collaboration, teamwork, and creativity. So, too, were they challenged to develop solutions to problems while adjusting to unfamiliar situations, building grit, determination, and resilience along the way. They rose to the occasion with the same enthusiasm as their predecessors, stepping into leadership roles and ultimately dishing out great results!
The class of 2024 chose fresh and varied themes for each night:
- Blast from the Past: Taking parents back to their childhood
- Live United: Bringing people together and raising awareness about refugees and LGBTQ rights
- Urban Rustic: City style meets country flavor
Congratulations to all our student-restaurateurs in the back of the house, the front of the house, and everywhere in between!

Dwight sends a special shout-out to Joaquin Elizondo, Chief Strategy Officer at Jacob's Digs and Chief Strategist at Insurgo; and Pam Abrams, Program Director at Jacob's Digs. They've been integral to teaching our students about all service and promotional aspects of the business, and have been there for them every step of the way since this program began in 2016. Thank you!
