Lower School

What a great pleasure it is to greet our Lower School students in grades 1-5 every day upon arrival to school! Eager to begin the day, students enter classrooms ready to think, see, and wonder about themselves and the world around them.

Lower School students are at the center of a highly interactive, innovative, and inquiry-based curriculum that is focused on the whole child. We teach to the “head and heart” of each child, and we delight in fostering a journey of personalized learning for every student through a variety of unique experiences:

  • At Dwight, we are committed to igniting the spark of genius in every child — we identify and encourage the special interests, talents, or passions of every student.
  • Dwight was the first school in New York City to offer the IB PYP curriculum, allowing students to learn by inquiring about the world through units such as “Where We Are in Place and Time,” “How We Express Ourselves,” and much more!
  • Grade 5 students have the fantastic opportunity to take their first steps abroad as global citizens by participating in a reciprocal exchange program with their peers at Dwight School London. This marks the first of many travel and cross-campus exchange opportunities Dwight offers.

Our classrooms are warm and happy learning communities where students are encouraged to explore a wide range of interests.

Visit us and see our dynamic Lower School in action!
