Lower School

As our first round of admissions for the 2021-22 academic year has passed, we are currently accepting applications in select grades according to availability. To inquire further, please email admission@dwight.edu. Check our Virtual Admissions Events page for recordings of open houses and upcoming spring admissions events.

Submit Online Application

To submit a 2021-22 application for grades 1-5 please create an account and apply online through Ravenna, our admissions database.

Attend an Open House

Due to COVID-19 health precautions, all of our events will be held virtually this year. We will be hosting a number of events this season so that you can better understand our community, faculty and curriculum. These will include Lower School Open Houses where you will have the opportunity to meet our leadership and also to take a virtual tour with the Admissions team. To sign up for a Lower School Open House, please visit our Virtual Admissions Events page.

Submit Official School Reports and Confidential Teacher Recommendation

All grade 1 applicants must submit the Independent School Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY) confidential school report. This report is to be given to your child’s current school and must be submitted directly from their school to ours. If your child presently attends an ISAAGNY school, they can supply you with the form. It can also be downloaded from this page. If your child is not currently enrolled in a Kindergarten program, please contact our Admissions office to discuss alternative options.

All grade 2-5 applicants must have their current school submit official transcripts from the past two years. The transcript release form found below is to be given to your child’s current school and the transcripts must be submitted directly from their school to ours. Additionally, your child’s teacher should complete the confidential recommendation form (see form below). If the transcript and Teacher Recommendation Form are not completed in English, an official translation must also be provided.

Schedule Virtual Student Interview

Once you have submitted an application, you will be able to schedule your child’s virtual interview. If your child is planning to take the ISEE for grades 1-5, we will accept this test as their assessment for Dwight. However, due to the extra challenges presented by COVID-19, we are making ISEE testing optional this year. In place of the ISEE, we have our own assessments that we can administer to students during the virtual interview. Please let us know if you prefer this option in advance of your child’s interview.

*Please note that the ISEE exam administered by ERB is available to be taken in some international countries. You may contact the ERB office for further information. If the ISEE exam is not available in your country and you do not have plans for your child to take it in New York, please contact the Admissions Office.

Schedule Virtual Parent Interview

Once you have submitted an application, you will be able to schedule your virtual parent interview via Ravenna. We will be conducting parent interviews for grades 1-5 via Zoom on Wednesdays throughout the Admissions season.

Dwight’s Test optional policy for the 2020-21 Admissions Season

We will consider all applicants equally, whether or not they submit standardized test results. Should you choose not to submit ISEE test scores, please note that as part of the application process, an internal Dwight assessment will be administered.

Applicants to Grade 1 are not required to submit standardized testing.

For those applicants who decide to take either the ISEE or the SSAT test, please visit the ERB website or the SSAT website to schedule a test date.

If you want to submit your scores, please ensure that Dwight School is listed as a recipient. Our school code for the ISEE is 333605. For the SSAT, our code is 2930.

*Applicant family is responsible for confirming application is complete. The Admissions Office will not review incomplete applications.
