Online Private School Extracurricular Offerings

October 25, 2025

From elementary school through high school, student clubs and organized extracurricular activities are important. Clubs are an ideal way for students to extend classroom learning or simply try something new.

Clubs at online private schools enrich learning, spark student passions, and build community. In the higher grades, extracurriculars also help to clearly demonstrate commitment and student efforts and interests during the college search process.

At a private online school like Dwight Global Online School, ranked #1 online high school in the Americas, extracurricular activities and clubs are central to the school’s mission of “finding the spark of genius in every student.

“Extracurricular activities like clubs are even more vital for an online school, to give students the feeling of a holistic educational experience," said Paul Roncone, Dean of Student Life and Associate Head of Curriculum and Instruction. “Dwight Global is constantly striving to build community and spark passion in and out of the classroom. Clubs and other Student Life opportunities provide opportunities for belonging, exploration, and leadership.”

extracurricular activities to enhance learning

At Dwight Global, every Friday is reserved for clubs and extracurricular activities. In addition to teaching courses, instructors lead clubs on a wide variety of topics. Any student can form a club, too, as long as there is enough student interest and a faculty advisor.

Lily Burch ‘26, who said she loves being a part of the Dwight Global community, leads six clubs and committees this year.

“I created Marvel Club because I noticed that we had many Marvel fans, but no way to connect and have fun,” said Lily.

“I love running the baking club because it’s a nice way for students and teachers to relax at the end of the week and have fun baking sweet treats,” she continued. “I love engineering, so leading the Engineering Club and being able to talk about engineering with my friends is amazing. I also co-lead the Art Club, Green House, and the Thandinani committee, which I enjoy because I get to grow a stronger friendship with my other co-leaders.”

Dwight Global offers more than 30 clubs and extracurricular activities–everything from academic-based clubs and competitive clubs, to art and community service clubs, to government and leadership extracurriculars. A random sampling follows:

  • Global Issues Network
  • Dwight Gazette
  • Birdwatching Club

One of the most beloved traditions at Dwight Global is the House System. Adapted from the British system, students are assigned a House upon enrollment. Dwight Global has 4 houses: Blue, Yellow, Red, and Green. Every year, the four Houses compete in a series of competitions for the coveted House Cup. These competitions include, but are not limited to: Debate-A-Thons, Spirit Week, Lip Sync Competitions, and many more.

The Houses also serve as a vehicle for social-emotional learning and a form of support. Every House is overseen by two student leaders: a Head and a Deputy Head of House who ensure that all students feel welcomed and supported.
