Top Benefits of Online Schooling for Aspiring Olympians
July 23, 2025
Aspiring Olympians who excel in their chosen sport are often school-aged students enthralled by the Olympic Games and its prestigious international competition. These students set their goals early.
Along the way, however, elite athletes who dream of competing at the Olympic level have to manage training, travel, competition, as well as the demands of academics—a heavy load that is made more difficult by the limitations of a traditional school.
Dwight Global Online School
Enter the increasingly popular option of an online education, particularly one like Dwight Global Online School, a premier independent online school for students in grades 6-12. Dwight Global is ranked No. 2 online high school in the Americas, and is recognized and respected worldwide for preparing students to succeed at the university level and beyond.
Student athletes who come to Dwight Global discover a transformative experience. The scheduling flexibility and the tremendous support from faculty and school leadership provide students with the ability to pursue rigorous athletic development alongside high level course requirements.
Dwight Global’s personalized education includes courses offered from early morning to late in the day, and faculty who understand and seek to nurture each student’s extracurricular passions. Students can log on to classes from any location in the world, as long as they have a laptop and an internet connection, and can change course sections if need be as they travel to different time zones. The school offers the International Baccalaureate and IB Diploma program, as well as Advanced Placement courses. The faculty are highly experienced physical classroom and online teachers.
Many of Dwight Global’s students seek to be recruited by colleges and universities to play their sport competitively, and the online high school has a track record of helping students achieve that dream.
Olympic Sailing Dreams
For others, like Olympic-class level sailor Caspar Lenz Anderson ‘25, the 2028 Olympic Summer Games in Los Angeles, California is the dream goal.

Anderson, who is based in Barcelona and sails for Canada, operates the very fast and very demanding Nacra 17 with his teammate, Coralie Vittecoq. The high performance, 17-foot catamaran is a fully foiling boat, meaning the twin-hulled craft flies on a daggerboard high above the surface of the water, needing split second balancing, skilled communication, and harmonious decision making on the part of the boat’s helmsman and single crew member. The Nacra 17 was the first event in Olympic sailing to require mixed gender teams.
Anderson’s sailing accomplishments include 69F Team Captain and Skipper, and SailGP Inspire Athlete.
“I could talk for hours about sailing,” said Anderson, who said his beloved sport combines strategy and speed and pushes people to be the best within their human limits and the boat’s technological limits.
Anderson noted that the complex qualifying races for the next Olympics send just one Nacra 17 team to compete from each of 20 nations. Canada has an established Olympic team, and Anderson and his teammate hope to unseat the two for Canada’s top spot.

Dwight Global’s flexible scheduling allowed Anderson to train in blocks of two weeks, five days on and one off.
“Generally, I would work out and then sail for about five hours in the afternoon when the wind picks up. After sailing, I would eat and have classes and do school work.” After Anderson’s success at Dwight Global, he chose an online school for university, as well. He will attend Arizona State University Online in the fall, to study Mechanical Engineering.
Anderson started sailing at age seven, and learned from his father.
“In fact, from ages 10-13 or 14, my parents homeschooled me. We bought a 44 foot cruising catamaran, my parents quit their jobs, and we sailed 35,000 nautical miles around the Caribbean. It was amazing. We lived on a small boat, explored, talked to people, and sourced our own food.”
Anderson’s high quality online high school provided him with advantages that allowed his academic, athletic, and emotional wellbeing to thrive.
“I am immensely grateful to Dwight Global. I have been able to see the world and attend World Sailing regattas, which meant weeks away from school, and maintain my high level academics at the same time,” Anderson said.
