How Online Schools Help Golfers Balance Training and Academics

October 10, 2025

Nationally, many families of student-athletes have recognized that online schools provide the flexibility and support those students need to excel in both their sport and their classwork.

Online live classes can be taken from anywhere in the world, while the student travels to compete or train. At the best online schools, those classes are offered in early morning and late evening hours to accommodate different time zones and to maximize a student’s learning preferences.

An online school’s scheduling flexibility helps all student-athletes, regardless of the sport itself. However, there is one sport that finds the flexibility of online school decidedly crucial for high school success: golf.

“Because you need daylight to play golf, there is limited time in which you can play,” said Jordan Levitt, a Dwight Global Online School 2025 graduate now competing on the women’s team at Notre Dame University.  “Prime” golf time often falls during the school day, between 9am and 2pm,” she said.

Levitt was happy to discover that Dwight Global’s school leadership and faculty were tremendously supportive of her sports pursuits, even when she needed to be away from school for days at a time.

The online school is the top choice for competitive junior golfers, where 25 percent of students are junior performance players. The school is a seasoned partner and sponsor of sports academies, associations, and tournaments. Students come from 39 countries around the world, and 33 United States.

Year-round scheduling allows athletes to maintain rigorous practice, travel, and competition schedules without compromising academics. The school offers Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Honors, and Standard college-preparatory courses, with learning support available.

All core classes at Dwight Global are NCAA-approved, allowing athletes to transition to US D1 and D2 colleges and universities. Dwight Global is accredited by Cognia.

Supportive Faculty and School Leadership

“Juniors golf tournaments are set up as a minimum of 54 holes, or ranging from 54-72 plus, which is more than three rounds of golf,” said Levitt. “With one round a day and several practice rounds, each tournament needs at least four days away from school, plus travel time, for each tournament I participated in.”

“At Dwight Global, I never felt like I was in the dark,” said Levitt.  “I would communicate with my dean and teachers frequently to let them know of an absence. I wouldn’t have been able to compete at the highest level of golf while also getting a great education, if it weren't for Dwight Global.”

Levitt’s path to collegiate sports involvement was also helped by Dwight Global, where college counseling begins in ninth grade. Experienced, dedicated college counselors assist with course selection, and continue through the college search process, even helping graduates past high school graduation, in many cases.

“The college advisors met with me and we discussed both my golf and academic goals. From there, we formulated a high school class plan to suit my goals for college,” said Levitt.

“As of this writing, I’ve been at Notre Dame for three weeks of my freshman year, and I can confidently say that the college-style aspect of Dwight Global has made this transition as smooth as could be,” Levitt said.

In-Person Celebrations

Levitt was just one of 18 Dwight Global 2025 graduates who were recruited to play their chosen sport at the collegiate level, or turn pro. Many of those students met at a Signing Day Ceremony in person at Dwight School’s NYC campus, an exciting event that brought together school leadership, students, family members and coaches.

At the event, students gathered for dinner in the Dwight School NY Quad and were treated to congratulations from Dwight Schools Chancellor Stephen Spahn and Vice Chancellor Blake Spahn, both of whom were themselves Ivy League college athletes.

Chancellor Spahn said, “You have all proven to be an elite athlete in your sport, and you have also gained the best education preparing you for college. The lessons you have learned in sports are something that makes you all unique, and I know Dwight has prepared you to take on any challenge that life may come your way.”
