College Counseling
Dwight Global is an established and growing online school, part of the Dwight School network. We offer a robust and rigorous curriculum that currently includes traditional, Honors, and Advanced Placement courses with both synchronous and asynchronous delivery. While the majority of our students live in the United States, we also have students in Europe, Asia, South America, and Africa. While many of our students are pre-professionals such as athletes, dancers, actors, our goal is to bring out the spark of genius in every child.
We are currently seeking a College Counselor to work remotely to guide students in grades 9-12 through the process of applying to highly selective schools in the United States and abroad.
The College Counselor will:
- Educate students and parents about colleges, the college admissions processes, trends, procedures, and testing through meetings, individually and in groups.
- Provide student-centered, individual guidance to students and families especially during the college research, application, and selection processes helping students and families to aspire realistically and choose wisely.
- Advise students on curricular choices as needed.
- Maintain and disseminate information about standardized tests such as PSAT, SAT, ACT, and TOEFL.
- Maintain and share updated information on colleges, college guides, scholarships, financial aid, and paying for college.
- Communicate and coordinate with faculty to ensure that student recommendation letters are of the highest quality possible.
- Attend weekly departmental meetings and additional student review meetings during admissions seasons.
- Guide students in writing essays and personal statements that are of the highest quality possible.
- Write the official school recommendation for each senior. To do so, the counselor gathers information from parents, teachers, school records, and students themselves.
- Work with registrar to maintain records on seniors, including transcripts.
- Complete all school reports and mid-year report forms requested by colleges, including evaluations of students.
- Keep track of admission decisions, statistics, and makes regular reports to the administration.
- Meets and builds relationships with college admissions representatives virtually and in-person to gain knowledge, promote our school, and in order to facilitate meetings between college representatives and our students.
- Contribute to the compilation and update of our annual school profile, advertisement of college counseling calendar, information, and services.
- Attend an annual in-person orientation in September, most likely in NYC.
- Represent college guidance by serving on internal committees within Dwight Global and The Dwight Schools network worldwide.
Candidates for this position should:
- Be familiar with the goals, objectives, and mission of a college preparatory school.
- Be able to respond effectively to the needs of a diverse student and parent population.
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational ability and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrate awareness of issues and trends in college admission, higher education, and testing.
- Possess knowledge of colleges, their academic programs, admission policies, financial policies and procedures.
- Have at least 3 years of successful experience as a high school counselor and/or as an admissions counselor at a university or college.
- Be highly competent with Zoom and other technologies needed to facilitate communication in a purely virtual environment.
- Able to establish a professional workspace with high-speed internet, computer and reliable phone access.
In addition, preference will be given to candidates who:
- Have extensive knowledge of the considerations for schools on the West Coast of the United States.
- Have knowledge and experience with the considerations for international students applying to universities and colleges in the United States.
- Have knowledge of the considerations for students applying to universities abroad to ensure adherence to international processes.
- Have knowledge and understanding of NCAA eligibility requirements and have experience working with athletes and familiarity with college recruitment.
