Student Ambassadors will assist the Dwight Global Admissions Team with:

• Dwight Global Virtual Open Houses
• Speaking with interested prospective families and students
• Giving families Dwight Global "Canvas" tours
• Miscellaneous Admissions Tasks

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, the NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

Students in grades 10–12 who meet the requirements for membership are eligible to be invited for membership.

Dwight Global will publish its qualifications for membership, which is based on the four pillars of NHS:

Scholarship: Per national guidelines, at a minimum, students must have a grade of 85% in all classes.

Service: This involves voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community without compensation.

Leadership: Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea contributors. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.

Character: The student of good character is cooperative; demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability; shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others; and generally maintains a clean disciplinary record.

Students who meet the scholarship requirement will have an opportunity to complete a form detailing their accomplishments in and commitment to service, leadership, and character.

As you begin the early stages of greater independence and responsibility as a middle level student, you may discover that you excel in your studies, have an interest in leadership and service, and have a thirst for challenge and accomplishment.

Membership in the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) may be an ideal fit for you! You can become a member through a local selection process that concludes with induction into the school’s National Junior Honor Society chapter.

Students in grades 7–9 who meet the requirements for membership outlined by our school  chapter are eligible to be invited for membership.

The Dwight Global Chapter follows  the five pillars of NJHS:

The Global Issues Network Club is a group of young students committed to making social and environmental change through participation in an action-based project to raise awareness and discuss sustainable solutions to local or global problems. GIN is a great opportunity for students to create projects about social justice topics that they are passionate about. 

Every year, Dwight takes a group of students on the Global Issues Network trip to Luxembourg. The inspiring stories from the keynote speakers, collaborating with peers from all around the world makes the conference a rewarding and positive experience. Students begin planning and implementing their projects before the conference in March. The GIN Club encourages young leaders to work together and positively impact global challenges!

Dwight Global's Diplomatic Leadership club allows students to participate in Model UN and Model Congress simulations that are similar to the procedures used in both the UN and the US Congress.  Students research relevant issues, both global and national, and debate these issues using parliamentary procedure.  It is excellent preparation for college because students increase their research and public speaking abilities, learn how to work with other students to solve problems, and enhance their leadership skills. We are hoping to resume in person conferences at some point this year and the DL club allows Dwight Global students the opportunity to interact with each other in person and visit the college campuses and cities that host the conferences.

The World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) is an international team academic tournament with students participating from over 40 countries.

The Competition

• Each Team consists of 3 students

• You are required to study a syllabus based on a general theme - History, Science, Art, Literature & Music, Social Studies, Current Events

• Work on debating skills, persuasive writing and general knowledge

The purpose of Debate Club is to introduce students to the art of argumentation through the medium of organized debate. Generally, students will learn to structure arguments and rebuttals, identify (and avoid) logical fallacies, perform good research, grow in their understanding of global issues, and more.

At this time, Debate Club will specifically focus on the World Schools Debate format. In World Schools Debate, teams consist of 3-5 people with 3 people directly involved in the live debate (the additional participants may help with preparation and may be rotated in during later debates, but once the round has begun, only the three identified communicators may speak or confer with one another). 

Debate Club will be divided into two groups: grades 6-8 and 9-12. Primarily, this is to adhere to competitive debate divisions. However, if at all possible, we will try to have some combined meetings especially when we are learning the format of World Schools Debate.

WISER (Women's Institute for Secondary Education and Research) is a non-profit NGO, which opened the first girls’ boarding school in Muhuru Bay, Kenya, to provide girls with the opportunity to overcome life obstacles through education. Dwight has worked with WISER since 2009 through its Partner Program to build global relationships, create an international exchange of ideas, and assist in providing scholarships for girls. The support of Partner Schools is especially crucial to WISER right now as Kenya is facing new obstacles due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Members of Dwight's WISER group will work on continuing and building relationships with the girls and teachers in Muhuru Bay, as well as further promoting WISER within our Dwight community.

Are you interested in Asian history and culture? Do you love watching Asian animations and dramas? In this club, we will learn about Asian countries and their cultures. We will play traditional Asian games, watch animations and dramas, and learn the basics of languages like Mandarin and Japanese. Throughout the year, there will be opportunities where we invite anyone to join and learn about how diverse Asia is.

This club is a space for African American / African and Caribbean Students at Dwight to connect, build community, and feel seen. It’s so important to have a community of black people you can turn to for so many reasons, but one of the biggest is building confidence in your identity. If you’ve ever been scared to wear your bonnet at a sleepover or away camp, you shouldn’t have to be scared to do something that is not only embedded in our culture, but also crucial to caring for our hair. Which is something I’ve learned through my connecting with my community. Having people who share a history, generational trauma, the struggles that come with forming an identity as a POC is so empowering, and there are so many things we can learn not only about ourselves, but the lives we live from each other. Change and justice for POC may not be knocking on our doors, and we’ll get there through building our coalition.

The goal of this club is to help tutor students who have chosen French as a second language, regardless of their level. Additionally, it will serve as an opportunity for classmates to learn about French culture through the lens of culinary, theatrical and entertaining skills. 

Meetings might include:

• Practicing French conversation

• Watching French movies

• Playing trivia games

• Finding new ways to improve language proficiency 

Students should show commitment and participate to ensure camaraderie. The purpose of this club is for students to engage in conversations to improve language proficiency, instead of spending time completing assignments on their own.

The yearbook committee is responsible for putting together the yearbook for the school year. It is imperative to have a strong group working together and delegating tasks to each person’s particular strengths.  The committee gets started with a kick off meeting in early October to decide on the theme of the book.

From emails to essays to novels, writing is present in our daily lives. And it’s also fun. 

Creative writing is an opportunity to create characters who embody one’s values, didactic stories that leave one breathless and awed, messages that imprint this world. A writer is more than someone who weaves words together; a writer is someone who goes outside and sees the way the birds line up on a tree or telephone wire, who observes the bustle of activity in a mall and feels the vitality vibrating inside, who sees the flaws in our society as well as the good and strives to make the latter more apparent. 

The Creative Writing Club practices the many things that can make a good writer great; we work on creating realistic characters whose flaws stem from their virtues, we learn how to overcome writer’s block, we explore the world around us and write about the things that go unnoticed, and we make sense of this jumbled world. Whether you want to tell a story, or change the world, or just find that little voice inside of you that always whispers, “I dream,” the Creative Writing Club is a place for everyone.

This quote is the defining principle of the Book Club--the belief that in books we can find the world. They act as mirrors, windows, and doors altogether, and we aim to use them as such, to explore the world through the lens of literature and literature through the lens of the world. Whether we’re looking at the historical context in which Margaret Atwood wrote The Handmaid’s Tale and Aeschylus wrote Prometheus Bound or the effect of Angie Thomas’s The Hate U Give on the entire publishing industry or simply examining characterization in Little Women, the Book Club analyzes books on numerous levels, through numerous perspectives, and by numerous ways.  Additionally, partnerships with the Creative Writing Club for a writing project and Debate Club for a book debate ensure that club members are able to interact in creative ways with the texts they read. Book Club will also be sponsoring events where guest authors will speak to the school.

Roughly every month, the Book Club’s members choose the book they wish to read, which can be from any genre or time period. One month we may read John Green’s Turtles All the Way Down and the next, we may read Plato’s Symposium. By reading these texts as a group, we make the difficult stories accessible and the easy ones fascinating. Although at the end of the month, we formally meet to discuss the texts, our members, particularly our leaders, are available throughout the reading period to ensure comprehension and retention.

Whether you want to pursue literature as a profession or simply enjoy books, the Book Club is a space for everyone. Ultimately, as Neil Gaimon said, “Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.”

Words are the foundation of knowledge- the way humans have communicated for hundreds of years. The way that stories have been passed down for generations. Books have allowed for the innovation of the human species. Each story holds a fragment of truth, a portal into which readers get to experience. Not only does a book give us a story- it gives us an escape from reality. 

In Junior Book Club, we will be focusing on a variety of different genres from fantasy to historical fiction, in hopes to ensure versatility within our member’s libraries. We’ll read, discuss, and participate in activities that further the understanding of the novel and idea surrounding it. From Kate Milifford’s The Green Glasshouse  to Lynda Mulley Hunt’s A Fish in A Tree, the goal of this book club is to explore a variety of topics, characters, and worlds. We hope to inspire empathy, inclusivity, and an appreciation of a multitude of writing styles. 

Every month, we will read a novel, and then participate in a live meeting. At the end of every meeting, we will vote on the book for the next week, with the goal being to find something everyone can enjoy. Whether you’re looking for a good page-turner mystery, a fascinating scientific-fiction, or a fantastical fantasy novel- we’d love to see you in Jr. Book Club!
 

We are delighted to invite you to join the Dwight Global Gazette Club! During our online meetings once a week, we will work on putting together a periodical that covers events at Dwight Global and other Dwight campuses as well as worldwide news. We intend to give students the possibility to upgrade their writing aptitudes and stay up to date on the latest news.

As a part of the club, you will be able to do interviews with students and faculty to be included in the monthly newspaper. Our Editor-in-Chief will be accountable for formatting the paper and managing other essential duties. The Editor-in-Chief may also write one or two articles for each edition of the paper.
