What is an IB Program?

The International Baccalaureate program is an academically rigorous program for students in preschool through grade 12. Each of the four IB programs are tailored to a specific age group. Together, they take a global approach, looking at big ideas across disciplines and enabling students to dig deep into their coursework and encouraging them to think critically, creatively, ethically, and globally. The IB fosters lifelong learners.

Recognized worldwide as one of the most challenging academic programs — the “gold standard” in pre-university preparation — the IB focuses on skill development while preparing students to engage with an excellent curriculum. The IB Diploma Program for juniors and seniors provides the ideal academic framework for educating internationally-minded problem-solvers — culturally agile and often multilingual. An IB diploma positions students for success in today’s global marketplace and prepares them as the next generation of global leaders.

Why does Dwight offer the online IB Program?

The IB teaches students to approach their studies with a global, ethical perspective. As a result, the IB program aligns with Dwight Global’s mission to ignite the spark of learning in every child.

Dwight Global is part of the Dwight Schools worldwide network, a pioneer in the Americas to offer all four IB programs. Dwight  also offers the IB curriculum because it aligns with the school’s mission to provide an education that enables students to make sense of the complexities of the world around them, as well as equipping them with the skills and dispositions needed for taking responsible action for the future.

Dwight’s IB program provides an education that crosses disciplinary, cultural, national and geographical boundaries, and champions critical engagement, stimulating ideas, and meaningful relationships.

How can a student take online IB classes at Dwight?

Beginning in grade 7, Dwight Global Online School introduces students to an inquiry-based curriculum, through which they are encouraged to collaborate, think critically and independently, and apply their knowledge to the world around them.

Students remain at the center of their learning journey and are encouraged to develop a passion for learning as they embrace new challenges. These essential skills serve as a launchpad for the IB Diploma Programme higher-level courses.

What are the requirements for obtaining the IB Diploma?

The IB Diploma Program is a two-year program progression that requires students to take six classes concurrently with the Core curriculum. The Core comprises the Theory of Knowledge Course, which explores the nature and dimension of knowledge, the Extended Essay, where students write an academic research essay, and the CAS program that seeks to develop the student through creativity, activity, and service.

With the IB Diploma Program, students can personalize their course selections and have flexibility to take classes at a standard level or a higher level.  In addition, students get to curate their course selections with a variety of class options as well as opportunities to conduct scholarly research in areas of personal interest. Each student must complete an extended essay, a research project on a topic of their own choosing. To obtain the IB Diploma, students must take at least three higher level classes. The full complement of IB course offerings is detailed in Dwight’s Upper School Curriculum Guide.
