New York

Welcome to Dwight School — founded in 1872 — a pioneering International Baccalaureate World School for students from preschool 2s-grade 12.

Located on Manhattan’s Central Park West, Dwight is a landmark New York City educational institution and the flagship campus of the Dwight Schools global network. As the first school in New York to offer the IB PYP and MYP — and first in the Americas to offer the comprehensive IB curriculum — Dwight has long been on the forefront of global education. We were also the first independent school to open a campus abroad in 1972.

Our spark of genius educational philosophy has further distinguished Dwight worldwide, as has our long-standing continuity of Spahn family leadership.

Being part of a global network of schools — indeed a close-knit family of schools — provides our New York community with numerous benefits, including access to diverse perspectives and unlimited opportunities.

By interacting with peers worldwide, students are exposed to different ways of thinking and problem-solving, which helps them to become well-rounded individuals. They can also have a broader impact on the world through collaborative initiatives that address global challenges. Their work together enables them to see the possibilities associated with being a truly global citizen while making a meaningful difference.

Our global network also affords faculty with extensive professional development opportunities. They tap into best practices from all corners of the globe, allowing our School to continuously innovate. John Dewey said, ‘Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.’ We believe that our global community plays an integral role in shaping the Dwight educational experience in New York and preparing students for a life with purpose.

- Dianne Drew, Head of Dwight School and Global Education Director of the Dwight Schools
