Students Celebrate Landmark MYP Achievement at Personal Project Exhibition

Each year, our community looks forward to exploring the MYP Personal Project Exhibition, where tenth graders proudly present the results of an immersive, eight-month project on topics of their own choosing. We were impressed — as always — with this year's diverse array of topics, which included: girls who code at Dwight, human rights in Indonesia, the role of street art in culture, veganism and sustainability, the evolution of comics, building a conflict mineral-free PC, immigrant women working in the U.S., construction of a low-cost wheelchair for athletes who are disabled, and many more!

The exhibition is a culminating experience in students' Middle Years Program studies from grades 6-10 — and a milestone achievement in their International Baccalaureate careers.

The Personal Project showcases the unique skills students develop throughout the five years of their MYP studies. It serves as a rich opportunity for them to reflect on their passions and interests and to share them with Dwight's community. The project is a significant piece of work, borne entirely of each student's own initiative and creativity.

Students are challenged to:

  • Select a topic that is personally meaningful and emphasize why the project matters not just to themselves, but also on a grander scale
  • Establish the relevance of their inquiry within a global context
  • Establish a plan
  • Conduct research
  • Take action to create a product
  • Reflect on the process

At every stage of the process, students draw grow as learners and embody the attributes of the IB Learner Profile.

Thank you to all who attended the exhibition to learn about — and celebrate — our tenth graders' achievements! Special thanks to all of the faculty members who helped guide students on their journeys.

And hearty congratulations to the class of 2019 — your hard work and dedication was evident in your wonderful projects!
