Preschool & Kindergarten
The Jr. Passport Afterschool Program is designed to help children ages three and up develop their abilities and talents through a variety of activities, as well as broaden their interests, build their self-esteem, spark their imaginations, and reinforce what they have learned in school. The classes are scheduled after the normal school day, and may also be attended by children who are not enrolled at Dwight.
We offer an extensive range of age appropriate activities from which to choose. Classes are taught by talented and experienced Dwight teachers as well as by leading organizations in New York City, including Super Soccer Stars, DramaZone, Basketball Stars of NY, and Top Level Chess, among others.
We also offer an Extended Day program.

Basketball Stars of NY stands out as the premier teaching program in New York by building character with positive reinforcement through teaching fundamental basketball skills in an environment with an overwhelming high coach to athlete ratio. Emphasis is placed on skill improvement, teamwork, sportsmanship, communication, and accountability for all participants. The Bulldog Ball Club educates children about basic baseball concepts and the proper mechanics of the game. Children learn age-appropriate fundamental baseball skills through group work, small games, and inter-team play; and are introduced to the values of positivity, effort, perseverance, and sportsmanship. Game on!
This program extends the day until 5:30 pm for students in the full-day 3s program to Kindergarten. The Extended Day Program provides a place to play with friends, draw, enjoy board games, and read or work on homework. Children have the opportunity to join both age-specific and mixed-age activities run by our team of enrichment specialists.

*Please note that kindergarten students are also able to participate in the Extended Day Program at the Central Park West Campus (CPW), which begins at 4 pm. Due to the 4 pm start time, any kindergartners participating in the Central Park West Campus Program will need to be signed up for a 2:45 pm after-school class and registered for the 3:35 pm shuttle. (NOTE: This program requires a minimum number of registrants to run.)
This energetic class focuses on developing coordination and confidence through fun and athletic dance. Taught by a DramaZone instructor, children learn the basics of technical hip hop dancing while listening to age-appropriate music that is hip and fun. Not only will children jump and stretch while learning math through rhythm and counting, they’ll also have tons of fun creating their own routines.
Children will be movin’ and shakin’ with a combination of gymnastic moves, jumps, and pencil rolls in this exciting dance and gym class taught by DramaZone pros! With age-appropriate music and dance moves, children get a great workout in this active class. It’s a ton of musical fun for both boys and girls!
A fun and exciting way to get your child movin' and groovin'! Taught by our very own energetic Ms. Ringer, Kidz-ercise will teach students “positive healthy living” by incorporating activities such as stretching, dancing, Zumba, and even Pre-K/K crossfit! This is the perfect way for your child to express him or herself in an engaging, energetic way while listening to some of their favorite songs!
Little bakers smell the goodness with Ms. Johnson as she teaches children how to measure, mix, bake, decorate, and present in this new baking class! Children learn the basics of baking while also learning how to make good choices with ingredients. All baked (and no-bake) goodies are nut-free and delicious. Price includes all cooking ingredients.
Little fencers enjoy the basics of fencing through games and coordination exercises in this class led by DramaZone’s Coach Michael. Head gear and equipment are age-appropriate and soft, while interaction is playful and non-competitive (no intense sparring or pairing). Children get tons of exercise and play!
The Little Lions Cubhouse 3s Extended Day is a fun arts program created for our half-day 3s preschoolers interested in exploring arts, crafts, movement, and games. After students eat their home-packed lunches as a group, they participate in a round of theater games focusing on teamwork, problem solving, imagination, and storytelling, followed by music, movement, and a group project especially geared for this age group. Little Lions Cubhouse is a wonderful way to enrich the classroom experience!
This extended day program is available to students enrolled in the half-day morning 3s classes. The program runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, from 11:30 am until 2:30 pm during the weeks of September 19–December 15, excluding holidays.
Ms. Lin, Dwight’s Mandarin teacher, shows us how to have fun with language! In this Mandarin class, students will engage in interactive hands-on activities, games, and child-centric lessons. Ms. Lin masterfully engages and nurtures children’s innate capacity to absorb language through a progressive series of exciting lessons that are organized around various themes. Children learn to sing and dance, as they learn a language through verbal, visual, and tactile associations.
Budding scientists will develop a love for science in the studio with exciting, interactive experiments! Students will engage in STEAM activities (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) while exploring topics in biology, chemistry, earth science, and physics. They will be introduced to scientific language and the scientific method, as they enter a new world of discovery and find answers to their own unique questions.
Our little sculptors create three-dimensional objets d’art by learning how to shape and combine materials. Students enjoy working materials by removal (such as carving) or assembling by using glue. Our artists, guided by Ms. Mitchell, a studio art major, will be forming, collaging, and gluing using clay, dough, wood, soap, paper, tape, beans, foam, and stone in this wonderfully creative class. Beware Michelangelo!
ABC Languages shows us how to have fun with language! In this Spanish class, students will engage in interactive hands-on activities, games, and child-centric lessons. Get the ball rolling with Super Soccer Stars, as they bring their popular soccer-skills program to Dwight! Positive, dynamic coaches work with our students to teach the basic skills needed to play soccer and stay fit. The goal of the program is to build confidence and teamwork in a fun, non-competitive, and educational environment.
Teddy Tennis is an educational program that inspires children to learn the fundamentals of tennis in a fun and exciting way. It works by combining music, pictures, and teddy bear stories into a totally interactive learning adventure that your child will love. All children receive a Teddy Tennis Club Card for activity stickers, a Completion Certificate, and a Teddy Tennis T-shirt at the end of the term.
Dwight’s own sign language expert, Ms. Chipre, offers a fun and interactive American Sign Language (ASL) class for our littlest hands. Children learn another language by learning how to let their bodies do the talking! They learn how to sign through songs and games while developing an understanding of and appreciation for the different modes of communication. ASL is a language in motion. Come sign with us!
The perfect instrument for little hands: the ukulele! Dwight’s musically talented music teacher, Ms. Jill, introduces children to the child-friendly ukulele. Children learn to enjoy and appreciate the world of music through hands-on strumming and singing as they practice a variety of patterns. Bravo!
Start your child on the path to a full life of music! This nine-week course for young beginners captures the child’s playful spirit. Taught by the magical Ms. Myers, your child will be introduced to directional pre-reading, elementary music theory, and technique with engaging songs, games, and creative discovery at the keyboard. Your child will enjoy the multicultural “friends at the piano,” who introduce white-key names, basic rhythms, and a variety of songs, which span classical, folk, and blues. Your child will also learn ear training and eye training throughout this course.
