Dwight Conservatory

The Dwight Conservatory is an integral part of our Music Department and provides students with an opportunity to take individual music lessons and ensemble coaching. The program offers a breadth of musical styles by a committed team of creative and very experienced professional musicians and teachers. Reasonably priced and conveniently available on campus, the Conservatory encourages students to actively participate in musical ensembles, representing the School in Music Department concerts and events in the U.S. and abroad. Being in New York City, our students are able to access live music of all styles and are able to perform in many prestigious venues, such as our annual student concert in Carnegie Hall. Members of the Dwight Conservatory faculty include graduates of such prestigious institutions as Juilliard, Manhattan School of Music, Mannes College, and the Curtis Institute of Music, who maintain active careers as orchestra members, chamber musicians, and recitalists in the New York metropolitan area and abroad.

We currently offer instrumental tuition in piano, voice, violin, viola, cello, double bass, percussion, flute, clarinet, saxophone, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, and theory and composition. Lessons are open to all students in grades 1–12 and cost $60 per half-hour lesson, $80 for 45 minutes, or $110 per hour. Additionally, Dwight Conservatory faculty offer specialized ensemble coaching at no additional cost. These diverse ensembles complement the many ensembles offered by the music teaching faculty (of which there is no fee). Regarding payment for Dwight Conservatory lessons/ensembles, families will receive an invoice five times per year: at the midpoint and conclusion of the first and second term, and a single invoice at the midpoint of the third term.

*Please note that if a lesson needs to be cancelled for any reason, the music department needs to be notified before 9:00 am that day so to re-schedule lessons and avoid a lesson charge.
