"The Weather Museum" with Grade 7 and Timothy House

In late October, the seventh graders presented their "Weather Museum" for guests from Timothy House as part of their current MYP unit on weather, climate and the atmosphere. Over the past several weeks, students researched weather-related topics such as the water cycle, precipitation, storm systems, thunder and lightning and more, and then designed models, posters, and activities to teach younger students about their research. Highlights included a board game about hurricanes, a puppet show about rainbows, hands-on demonstrations of the four seasons, and several students were also invited to present for other classes as guest speakers on their topics.
Seventh grade students collaborated in small groups and created a variety of activities, posters, and digital presentations to create "The Weather Museum." They then confidently communicated their findings with their younger peers and the second and third grade students of Timothy House gained knowledge not only about a variety of topics such as snow storms, rainbows, tornadoes, and how the sun affects seasons, but also came away with new ideas and ways to learn about science.
The students truly were impacted by this experience. They were amazed at the knowledge of the older kids and the excitement of the 7th grade made the younger students eager to learn new things in their Unit of Inquiry. Thanks to the 7th grade for giving Timothy House kids such a good example that learning IS FUN!
