Dwight School is excited to announce that it has joined a select group of 21 schools worldwide to earn the world’s first official endorsement for K-12 schools in artificial intelligence (AI).
Last week, the Middle States Association announced that Dwight, along with a handful of schools from around the world, is now part of Cohort 2 of their RAIL (The Responsible Use of AI License) “Founding Fifty.” Recognized for “AI Literacy, Safety, and Ethics,” this certification is currently the only global endorsement for K-12 schools in AI.
With this distinction, Dwight is poised to deepen its students’, teachers’, and administrators’ understanding of AI in education. The Dwight School community will continue to learn about digital literacy while gaining knowledge regarding the various ethics of using emerging technologies and navigating the digital world.
Dwight has long incorporated state-of-the-art technological advances in its curricular development, AI included, as part of encouraging its educators to embrace new methods. As AI offers both Dwight students and teachers the tools to expand learning, Dwight strives to be a leader in this sphere.
Lesa Wang, Head of Design and Global Spark Programs Director, explained, “The certification is important because it puts Dwight School at the forefront of ethical AI integration in education, equipping students and teachers with the skills needed to navigate an AI-driven world. It ensures Dwight isn’t just using AI, but leading the conversation on how to integrate it responsibly.”
More insight into RAIL and AI in education can be found in the second episode of our Sparking Genius podcast, “Unlocking AI’s Potential in Education.” Host (and Head of School) Dianne Drew speaks with Amanda Bickerstaff, CEO of AI for Education, and Christian Talbot, President of the Middle States Association—the school accreditation organization that created the RAIL certification.
In addition to discussing the importance of this new RAIL certification, they examine AI’s role in education, emphasizing the importance of AI literacy, ethical considerations, and safety. They also discuss AI’s potential to inspire ingenuity and enhance learning experiences for students and educators alike.
